Top Ten Tuesday (43) – Top Ten Favorite Book Covers Of Books I’ve Read
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted each week by The Broke and the Bookish as a way to combine our love of lists with our love of books. This week's topic is my Top Ten Favorite Book Covers Of Books I've Read. It's funny that this is the topic this week because I've been participating in Rae Gun Ramblings' Bookish Photo A Day Challenge on Instagram and one of the prompts was Pet Peeves. I chose my pet peeve of putting random girls in pretty dresses as my pet peeve. And now this topic for Top Ten Tuesday comes and it's a perfect fit! None of my favorite covers for books I've read have girls in dresses as the focus of the cover. But they've got lots of other awesome stuff going on. So check them out, here are my Top Ten:

- Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan: This is, of course, the hardcover and not the redesigned paperback. I loved it when it came out because it was so original and unique and I felt like it went with the book so well because the book was unique and different. But then they went and changed it and the second won't have the same look and that makes me sad.
- In a Glass Grimmly by Adam Gidwitz: I absolutely adore the covers for these books but I've only actually read this one. The covers are cute and appropriate for middle-grade but a little bit dark to match the content. They make me smile. Just like this book.
- Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell: I love how simple and cute this is. It sums up so much of Eleanor and Park's relationship just from that simple drawing. And I can't say how happy it makes me that it's not just another kissy face cover or a photo of a couple that doesn't represent the characters at all.
- The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith: Okay, I know this looks like a kissy face cover after I just said how much I don't like them, but this one is different. The kissy face isn't the focus. I just love the photograph. I love the black and white with just a bit of red. Plus I love the title and the book. So that helps a lot.
- My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick: Again I have a kissing couple but it's not a close up like they usually are. I just like the photograph again, the colors, and how it feels so sweet and innocent. Once again, I think it captures the feel of the book really well and is different without being off-putting.
- The End Games by T. Michael Martin: I love how dark and menacing this cover is. They could have put some generic zombie on the cover or made it gray or put the title over the whole cover but they didn't. They made it red with creepy zombies watching over the brothers who look as if they don't know what's coming. It's creepy without being over the top and in your face. I love it.
- Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo: They could have totally gone girl in a dress on the cover of this one but they didn't and I love that. While I'm sure she would have looked beautiful and, hopefully, kick-ass, I love the art they chose instead. With the antlers and the castle and the colors, it's all just perfect.
- The Hunger Games by J.K. Rowling: This might be too plain or simple for some people, but I love that about it and how the pin is the whole focus. You may not know what it means before you read the book, but you most definitely will afterwards. There's almost nothing, with the exception of a bow and arrow maybe, that is more significant to this series than that mockingjay pin.
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky: I love this cover. I love the color, I love the photo, I love the uniqueness, I love how it just fits so perfectly with the title and the book. I love it.
- Pivot Point by Kasie West: As talked about already, I'm not big on pretty girls plastered on the covers of all of my books. But this one? I love it. I can't help it. I love the reflected image, especially considering the story-line, I love the title, I love the fractured light. All together, it's just beautiful.
Okay, that's my list for this Tuesday! How do you all feel about covers? Do you love the girls in dresses? Kissy faces? Artwork? Originality? What's your favorite kind of cover? I want to know! So leave me a link in the comments so I can come and check out your picks!
Blog Tour: Drowning In You by Rebecca Berto: Review and Giveaway
I'm happy to be a part of the Drowning in You blog tour today. I have a review of this New Adult Contemporary for you as well as information about the book and a giveaway!

Drowning in You (Finding Forever In Us #1) by Rebecca Berto
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Level: New Adult
Publication Date: April 12, 2013
Rating: 3/5 starsSummary: Secretly crushing
Crushed by a tragedy
Charlee May’s been crushing on Dexter Hollingworth since she was fifteen. Five years later, a horrific skiing disaster at Mason’s Ski Lift Resort leaves her millionaire dad critically injured and her mom dead at the hands of Dexter operating the lifts. Charlee is suddenly the sole caretaker for her little brother while their world falls apart.
Dexter couldn’t be more different from Charlee. He’s tattooed, avoids exclusive relationships and his Dad has a fair share of illegal dealings. With Dexter’s reputation, almost everyone believes he planned the Mason’s skiing disaster.
And after all these years he’s still crushing on Charlee May, the girl who’s too good for him.
When this cruel twist of fate ties Charlee’s family and Dexter’s reputation together, Charlee and Dexter wonder if their feelings are reciprocated, while Dexter discovers his dad is trying to steal the May’s millionaire fortune.
But like an addiction, one look, one touch, one taste—they’re hooked no matter the consequences.
That summary is something, isn't it? I love it. Tragedy. Attraction. Romance. Pain. Mystery. All in one book. And it is all in this book. Unfortunately, it wasn't done quite as well as I had hoped. But still, this book is enjoyable and I always like reading about characters in the New Adult age range.
When Drowning in You starts, the accident involving Charlee's parents at the ski resort has already taken place, so we're dumped right into the middle of it all. Charlee's mom is dead, her dad is struggling to survive in the hospital with extensive injuries, and Charlee has become the full-time caregiver for her ten year old brother. I love being dropped right into the thick of a story, especially when it comes without the awful info dump. The only problem this time was that the beginning ended up being a little bit confusing. The writing needed some smoothing out. It was too choppy and pretty hard to follow in the beginning.
By far the best parts of this story were the family moments. The times Charlee has with her dad and the emotions she goes through trying to care for Darcy are the most moving. Those are the times when I felt the strong emotions and the times that broke my heart. Even the times that Dexter has with his dad are surprising. The family connection was easily the strongest part of the story and the easiest part for me to connect with.
The biggest letdown in this book for me, unfortunately, was the romance between Charlee and Dexter. I had a hard time seeing the long-time attraction they each held for each other. It felt more like they'd just randomly known each other from the past rather than crushing on each other for years. They were cute together and they definitely had their moments, especially after moving past the awkwardness of their first few meetings in the book, I just didn't understand why they liked each other in the beginning.
Overall this book held both positives and negatives for me. I was surprised by the twist in regards to Dexter's dad, I loved the moments between Charlee and her family, I liked that Charlee and Dexter were a couple that seemed better together than they were apart, I liked the addition of Eliot and the way his story-line played out, but I really wish the writing had been stronger. I think a good editor could make this book something really special. I gave Drowning in You 3 stars.

Book Blitz: Plastic Hearts by Lisa De Jong

I'm excited to be participating in a Book Blitz today for Plastic Hearts by Lisa De Jong, hosted by Xpresso Book Tours. If you don't know this book yet, it's the first in a New Adult Contemporary series. Take a minute to read all about it below and be sure to check out the excerpt!
Plastic Hearts (Hearts #1) by Lisa De Jong
Genre: Contemporary
Level: New Adult
Publication Date: February 27, 2013Summary: My life has always been safe. I like it that way. I grew up in a fake society where plastic hearts rule. If our hearts are made of plastic, they can never be broken. My parents have expectations and I do everything I can to meet them, even if it means giving up on my own dreams.
Now, all I want is to be free to make my own choices.
Dane Wright is everything I have been warned to stay away from. We met one night while I was with my perfect, parent-approved boyfriend and I haven’t stopped thinking about him. I don’t want to like him. I am doing everything I can to ignore his pull, but my heart seems to want what it cannot have, what it has never had.
Can he measure up? He may think I am too good for him, but maybe he is too good for me.
Life is a series of choices and I have never been able to make my own. Until one day, when my heart decides to make a choice for me.
Recommended for mature readers due to sexual content and language
I felt a finger under my chin, lifting my gaze back up to his eyes. “Hi,” he said. I couldn’t quite hear his voice, but I could read his amazing lips under the strobe lights. God, he was beautiful, the type of beautiful that renders me temporarily speechless. I wasn’t sure how long I stood there searching for something to say, but it was long enough for me to completely forget my own name.
“I’m here with my boyfriend,” I finally blurted. It came out so quickly I wasn’t even sure he understood a word I said. Why did I always turn into a blabbering mess when I was nervous? Did I mention that when he smiled, two magnificent dimples appeared? Dammit.
I watched him look around and then he smiled. “I don’t see a boyfriend. Sorry, you’re going to have to come up with something a little better than that. Try again.” Who did this guy think he was?
I pressed my lips into a tight line. “No, I’m really here with my boyfriend. Right, Jade?” I turned around to pull her into the conversation, but she was gone. This was not going well. This mystery man had unnerved me by putting his hands on my body and flashing those incredible dimples and there was no one around to save me. I was stuck on the dance floor with a sexy stranger while my boyfriend and best friend were nowhere to be found. Ryan was probably sitting at the bar, slowly nursing his first beer, while Jade was doing God knows what with a guy whose name she would never know.
I hesitantly turned back toward him until our eyes met again. He seemed amused as he continued to smile down at me. “So do you want to keep dancing? Or can I buy you a drink?” He shouted over the music.
I personally haven't had the chance to read this one yet, but I definitely will be soon! Between the excerpts I got to read and all the great reviews it's getting on Goodreads and Amazon, I can't pass it up. Let me know if you've read it or if you're planning on picking it up!
