These past couple of months have been horrible in terms of reading for me. I don’t really know what happened but I have read less in these last two months combined than I usually do in just one month. So I think I’m in a reading slump and it really sucks. I just don’t even have much of a desire to pick up any books. Even my most anticipated books are just sitting on my shelves! What is wrong with me?!?! It’s super frustrating. I’m hoping it’ll pick up again this month because if it doesn’t, there’s no way I’m meeting my Goodreads goal this year. I know that’s not what it’s really about but I still like reaching the goals I’ve set for myself. So I’m going to make another TBR post in the hopes that I’ll find some reading inspiration in it. I only read four books last month and only one of them was from my TBR post, so I’m really not promising anything by listing these books. But I do really really hope to read them this month.
Written in Red and Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop: I’m so glad I finally picked up this series! It’s weird and it definitely has its problems but I’m addicted and really enjoying it. I’m currently halfway through Vision in Silver and am going to have to order the next one ASAP! This series is giving me hope for my reading slump right now.
Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao and Into the Bright Unknown by Rae Carson: I enjoyed FoaTL more than I thought I would. I usually have a hard time with retellings and villain stories but this was really well done. Though I had hoped for more from the ending. And ItBU is probably one of the biggest letdowns for me so far this year. I love this series but feel like this finale really didn’t live up to the rest of the series.
About that Kiss by Jill Shalvis and Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop: Romance is sort of my go-to when I’m in a slump so as soon as I finish Vision in Silver, which I’m already halfway through, I’m hoping to jump into the new Shalvis. I’m so excited that I have books that I know I’ll enjoy, even if I’m still slow to get through them. Also, I may have to pick up the next book in The Others series, so that might be a book this month too.
Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills and The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand: These are two books I’m really excited about too because I’ve read both of these authors and loved their previous books. I’m hoping these will similar.
Kat and Meg Conquer the World by Anna Priemaza and Retribution Rails by Erin Bowman: I really don’t have any idea what to expect from Kat and Meg but I hope it’s a cute contemporary and RR I’m looking forward to because I really enjoyed Vengeance Road. Though I don’t really remember a lot of specifics for that one so I might have to do a reread or find a really good, detailed review of the events from that one.
Meet Cute: Some People are Destined to Meet and Otherworld by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller: I’m hoping this anthology of people meeting will be good. I don’t tend to do well with short stories but I’m hoping they might help right now with my slump and help make me feel like I’m making a lot of progress. And Otherworld sounds really interesting! I haven’t read their previous books but I do own the first in that series. But I’m excited that this one is young adult and science fiction!
Okay, so considering I only read four books in October, this is a very ambitious pile for me. But I’m still holding out hope that I’ll get back into the groove of reading and have no problem flying through these. If not, there’ll be piles of graphic novels on my nightstand come December so I can make that reading goal this year!
What are you excited to read this month?
