I can hardly believe that I read so little this month! I had such high goals set for September and I didn’t even come close to finishing all the books on my list! It’s actually even a little embarrassing. I know it doesn’t really matter but I was really hoping to get through a few more books than this last month. I’m not even sure I read one that I was completely in love with! And that’s what hurts the most. I really need a book that will grab me and keep me reading all day and make me forget to eat and sleep and all of that. I feel like it’s been a while since a book did that to me and I should be due for one soon. What was the last book you absolutely could not for any reason put down? I’m going to have to add those to my list!
While I wait for your suggestions, here’s what I was actually able to read last month and what I hope to read this month:
The Daybreak Bond by Megan Frazer Blakemore and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie: I really enjoyed this middle-grade sci-fi series and have been pushing it on my kids, though they always love ignoring all of my book recs. I didn’t love the diary-style writing of TATDOAPTI but thought the story was pretty emotional. Definitely a classic and definitely worth a read.
Chasing Christmas Eve and Her Secret Santa by Jill Shalvis: I really enjoyed the first one but didn’t realize the second was a novella till it was almost over. I’m not a huge fan of novellas so I wouldn’t really recommend this one but I loved the first one and recommend her whole Heartbreaker Bay series!
Among the Red Stars by Gwen C. Katz and Love, Life, and the List by Kasie West: I definitely recommend both of these. I think they were my favorite reads of the month. Read AtRS for the interesting story of female fighter pilots and the friendships that developed and LLatL for the cute romance.
This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis and Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao: I’m honestly both excited and scared to read Mindy’s new book. Her books can get very intense and dark and while I don’t know much about this one yet, I do know there have been mixed reviews. I hope I’m in the right mood when I start it. I had wanted to read Forest last month but time got away from me. I’m excited to get to it this month!
Meant to Be by Julie Halpern and Retribution Rails by Erin Bowman: I don’t really know what Meant To Be is about but I’m hoping it’s maybe a cute romance with some important issues discussed. And RR is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while so I hope it lives up to my expectations! Though I might need to review VR a little before diving into this one.
The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand and Kat and Meg Conquer the World by Anna Priemaza: I’m really excited for both of these but am expecting them to be quite different from each other. I hope they’re both good!
Invictus by Ryan Graudin and Ringer by Lauren Oliver: These were both on my list for last month and I had really wanted to get to them but for some reason reading just wasn’t happening much for me. Hopefully that’ll be different this month and I’ll finally pick these up!
Okay, after my horrible barely-even-showed-up-for September reading, I’m cutting my list off there. I should have no problem finishing eight books in October but my confidence is a little low right now so I’m keeping my options open and hoping that means everything will just flow more smoothly and naturally. The good thing is that I’m not actually stressed about my reading, I’m still ahead of schedule for the year, I just wish it didn’t feel even a tiny bit like a chore right now. I know it’ll pass, I just hope it’s sooner rather than later!!
What are you excited to read in October?
