July at a Glance

August is just around the corner and I’m a little sad about that. The kids start back to school in just a couple of weeks and I feel like we’ve barely had any summer at all yet. They’re feeling a little rushed too but they’re also excited to see their friends and go back to school shopping. We’ve been homeschooling for the past couple of years so this will be a big adjustment for all of us and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at all anxious about it all. But we’re mostly trying to hold on the the excitement and let the rest work itself out.

As for the blog, I feel like I’m going to jinx myself here but I’m definitely looking forward to having a little bit more free time and focusing back on the blog and reading a bit. I had all of these grand plans to get a ton of reading done over the summer but of course, that didn’t exactly go as planned. But I didn’t fall behind on my reading so I’m happy with that.

The blog did suffer a bit over the summer, though. And I’m sorry about that. It’s not even that I haven’t had ideas or any books to blog about. I’ve just been lazy and unable to focus. I really don’t know why. We have had a lot of stuff going on in terms of the house and the cats and summer camps and when all of that is done being dealt with, I’m just tired and want to watch TV or a movie and just zone out. But again, I’m hoping with a little more time once school starts and these house things settle down, I’ll be back on track to posting more and being slightly more engaged than I have been. I appreciate all of you guys sticking around and I really hope you’ve been able to enjoy your summer (or winter?) as well!

If you weren’t around or were and missed anything, here’s what happened on the blog in July:

Waiting on Wednesdays

Favorite July Reads

The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke, #1) Do You Want to Start a Scandal (Spindle Cove, #5, Castles Ever After, #4)

So this is not normal for me at all but these are the two books I enjoyed most in July. For whatever reason, my usual books just weren’t keeping my attention much. But Tessa Dare’s books, with their wit and humor and crazy situations and romance were ones I just couldn’t put down. The Duchess Deal doesn’t come out until later in August and it has an interesting Beauty and the Beast vibe, so keep an eye out for it. And, of course, Do You Want to Start a Scandal is already out so you can grab it, along with the rest of the series, and just enjoy some good, fun historical romances.

Best Book Mail

I’ve been very lax when it comes to my Instagram account this summer as well so I don’t have any pictures just yet. I’m also hoping to get back into that when school starts up again. I have had some fun mail but the best so far was that my brother went to SDCC and brought me back these two ARCs!!!!

Wonder Woman: Warbringer (DC Icons, #1) Devils & Thieves (Devils & Thieves #1)

I’ve been trying to get my hands on Wonder Woman for months and was super excited when I learned about Devils & Thieves. And because he’s such an awesome brother, he didn’t even bat an eye when I told him where and when these would be available. He even got Leigh Bardugo to sign WW for me!!! And fun story, he did this, too, back when Six of Crows was released. He stood in line super early in the morning because they only had like twelve copies or something. By now, I think he’s met her more times than I have! But they’re both awesome and I appreciate her being so nice to him and I definitely appreciate him and my SIL grabbing these for me!!!!

Coming Up in August

Well. Hopefully they’ll be some blog posts. Beyond that, I’m not entirely sure. Top Ten Tuesdays will be back, so I’ll have those posts again. I know I haven’t posted any Friday ARC giveaways in a few weeks but I’m trying to decide what direction I want to go with those. I still want to host giveaways for my ARCs but I’m thinking about maybe making bigger giveaways every other week or once a month or maybe moving them to Twitter or something. I’m just not sure. I’m trying to think of a way that benefits both you guys and me and helps clear books from my shelf. So if you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them! I just always get behind with the weekly giveaways and so I’m just not sure I can continue with those.

Otherwise, like I said above, I’m hoping to get back to regular posting. I think I need to make a schedule for myself. With school starting and the kids going back, this is the first time that both kids will be in school full time at the same time. Besides summer camp week, I’ve never had this much free time. So I think I’ll need to start planning better so I don’t just waste my time binge watching every TV show I’ve missed in the last twelve years. Though, that doesn’t sound completely horrible…

I do hope all of you guys have a great August! Do you have any fun plans or are you also buckling down and getting ready for school to start again?

  1. I thought my summer was going to be so productive blogging wise but real life got in the way, so I know how you feel! However, you got so much done this July, you should be happy with yourself.

Also, I really love Wonder Woman: Warbringer, I hope you do too!

    Thanks for sharing!
