reading queue

I really had no idea what to expect reading wise for February but I ended up being pleasantly surprised! I read a lot more than I thought I would! Unfortunately, almost everything I read was just okay for me. I had a couple stand out, mainly The Naturals series, and I did enjoy msot of them, but there were a few I was hoping would blow me away and they just didn’t. But overall I’m still happy with my reading and am glad I read the books I did because they were all ones that I really wanted to read. And now I know how I feel about them. But for March, my hope is to be blown away or fall in love with several books. I think that’s fair. And based on my list, I really think that’ll be achievable.

So here’s what I read in February and what I hope to read in March.

February

Killer Instinct (The Naturals, #2) All In (The Naturals, #3) Bad Blood (The Naturals, #4)

Killer Instinct, All In, and Bad Blood by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: I loved this whole entire series and I really hope you guys will consider picking it up and checking it out for yourselves if you haven’t yet. It’s a great thriller/mystery series with great characters who all have special abilities and very complicated pasts. I also love the author’s other series, The Fixer. Definitely give her books a try!

#famous To Catch a Killer

#famous by Jilly Gagnon and To Catch a Killer by Sheryl Scarborough: I was actually a little disappointed in both of these. #famous was not nearly as cute as I had hoped but mostly I just wasn’t captivated by the characters at all. And I ended up DNFing To Catch a Killer. I just couldn’t handle how easy and convenient everything was turning out. I did skim the end and saw the killer was who I suspected. I was definitely hoping for more suspense with this one.

Traveler (Traveler #1) Hunted

Traveler by L.E. DeLano and Hunted by Meagan Spooner: Traveler was a lot of fun! I didn’t love the weird sort-of love triangle it had going on but everything else was enjoyable and I’m looking forward to the next one! Hunted was fun but a bit slow in the middle. I think if you love Beauty and the Beast retellings, this is a very good one. I just think they might not entirely be for me.

The Wrath & the Dawn (The Wrath & the Dawn, #1) Reckless Hearts (Reckless Hearts, #1)

The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh and Reckless Hearts by Heather Van Fleet: Was I in a bad mood this month or what? Both of these were just okay for me. I was expecting such an underdeveloped romance or a love triangle in TW&TD and I had a really hard time connecting with the characters in RH. I had high hopes for both of these.

The Thing About Love A Good Idea

The Thing About Love by Julie James and A Good Idea by Cristina Moracho: Now these are two that I did enjoy! I really liked the hate-to-love romance in TTAL and the undercover cop aspect. And I was very surprised by AGI. The tagline really made me very worried (“Can the right kind of boy get away with killing the wrong kind of girl?”) but the mystery and the unlikable characters and the small town secrets really pulled me in. It was a very well-done YA mystery/thriller.

Space Battle Lunchtime, Volume 1: Lights, Camera, Snacktion! Space Battle Lunchtime Volume 2: A Recipe for Disaster

Space Battle Lunchtime Vol 1 & 2 by Natalie Riess: This is a story about a girl taken to space to fill in for a missing candidate on a cooking competition show, think Chopped in space with aliens. The kids enjoyed these much more than I did. The story is cute and I liked the artwork but the characters are very developed and the story just stays very much on the surface. I was hoping for a little more meat *wink* to the stories. But they were a fun diversion from reality for a tiny bit.

March Reads

March: Book One (March, #1) March: Book Two (March, #2) March: Book Three (March, #3)

March Books 1, 2 & 3 by John Lewis: I’m really excited to read these. I meant to read them last month with my son and husband but time got away from me and then the month was over. I’ll be picking them up ASAP!

Nowhere Near You (Because You'll Never Meet Me, #2) Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1)

Nowhere Near You by Leah Thomas and Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: NNY was actually on my list last month too and I just didn’t get to it. I really enjoyed the first one so I’m hoping to get to it this month. And of course StD! It comes out later this month so I really want to read it!

Geekerella The Upside of Unrequited

Geekerella by Ashley Poston and The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli: I’ve heard Geekerella is really cute so I of course I’m hoping I’ll love it too. And Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda was on of my favorite books in 2015 so I CANNOT wait to start TUoU!

Wires and Nerve, Volume 1 (Wires and Nerves, #1) Scrappy Little Nobody

Wires & Nerve by Marissa Meyer and Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick: These finally came in for me at the library and I’m SO excited!! Obviously I love The Lunar Chronicles so I can’t wait to read more about Iko and what she’s up to. And I love Anna Kendrick and I hope this’ll be a fun, quick read.

Prisoner of Ice and Snow Letters to the Lost

Prisoner of Ice and Snow by Ruth Lauren and Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer: These are two ARCs I’m really excited about but they’ll probably be the ones I read this month only if I finish up the rest of my books. These are both early April releases so I really hope I can get to them but I want to enjoy them too and not feel rushed with them.

A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic, #3) The Traitor's Kiss (Traitor's Trilogy, #1)

A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab and The Traitor’s Kiss by Erin Beaty: I need to read ACOL ASAP! 1 because I don’t want to be spoiled. And 2 because I’m DYING to find out what’s going to happen! Also, since I’m so late in posting this, I’ve actually already finished TTK and loved it!

What was your favorite book from February and what are you most excited to read in March?

  1. That is good that you got a lot of reading done in February. I am sorry you didn’t love any of the books. I hope you find a great on in March! I read #famous and felt the same way it was ok, not what I was expecting either.
