I wasn’t really sure what to expect when it came to my reading list for July so my post last month only had four books on it. Of course I ended up only reading two of those, but that tends to be how these go. I always have grand plans for the month and follow them for about a week. Then it’s whatever goes. I was really just happy that I even felt like reading. So even though I didn’t actually follow my list very closely, I still read a good amount and enjoyed them! I’m not sure what to expect with August and school starting, but I still made a big list anyway! Here are the books I read in July and what I hope to read in August.
I actually really enjoyed both of these. Learning to Swear in America is a fun book about the end of the world and a teen genius who hopes to save the world. My favorite part was Yuri’s view of America as a Russian teen who is very socially awkward. Just a Girl was also a lot of fun. It’s a new adult romance with a strong musical theme that looks at moving on and overcoming past relationships and mistakes. I really enjoyed it, though I didn’t love the male love interest.
The Season was one that wasn’t even on my list at all but I saw it at the library and snatched it up. It was fun, quick, and enjoyable but a little all over the place when it came to what age it seemed to be for. Still, I enjoyed it. The Problem with Forever is one that most people love but I just couldn’t get past the writing style. I think JLA and I just aren’t meant to be.
A couple of 2013 books I’ve been meaning to read for a long time!! The Dream Thieves is a widely loved book and sequel to The Raven Boys. I enjoyed it in the end but it dragged quite a bit for me in the middle. I’ll be picking up Blue Lily, Lily Blue after ARC August is over. The Naturals is one I bought right after reading The Fixer and finally read it this month! In one day!! I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait to continue the series.
And two new books published this month that I just couldn’t wait to read!! Of course I loved them both. I highly recommend both of them! P.S. I Like You is I think my second favorite Kasie West Contemporary, right behind The Distance Between Us. I loved the MC, I loved how it all came together, and I loved the banter between the two. Rebel Magisters is a sequel to Rebel Mechanics and it ups the swoon level from the first and the possibility of a revolution. You guys should definitely read these!
POLDARKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!! I’m obsessed. Read it. Watch it. Obsess with me. Please. We also finished our reread of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I think I like this one more each time I read it. We’ve already started on Order of the Phoenix. I don’t feel the same way about that one. It always drags for me. So much that doesn’t matter. Which is a lot, coming from me, who loves just about anything more from the Harry Potter world that I can get. And speaking of, did you get the new one? The Cursed Child?!?!?! I pre-ordered mine from Amazon and am still waiting for it to show up.
I’m participating in ARC August hosted by Read.Sleep.Repeat. this month so I’ll be sticking mostly to ARCs. I read a bunch of great books last month but only two of them were ARCs. Oops. So while I had a lot of fun and have no regrets (because sometimes we just want to read what we want to read, right?!), I am a little behind on some of the review books I have. So I’m excited to dive into these books and make a dent in my review pile. Here are the books I’m hoping to read. But to keep with the idea of reading what I want (and hopefully not getting stuck in a slump or anything), I am going to keep this flexible.
I don’t think for a minute that I’ll actually be able to get through all of these but I really am going to try!
Are you guys participating in ARC August? What are you most excited to read this month?
