Reading Queue is a monthly meme hosted by Books: A True Story where we can get together and talk about the books we hope to read in the coming month and the books we read last month. So write up your own Reading Queue post and then go check them out!
As I mentioned last month, I was participating in ARC April this month, so I left my queue pretty open so that I could read as many as I could without feeling tied down to a specific list. Of course, with the month being as busy as it was, I didn’t get the chance to read more than I usually do, so I didn’t get more reading done than I usually do, but I’m still happy with what I was able to finish. Here are the ARCs (and two comics) I was able to cross off my list this month!
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson: I highly recommend this one if you’re a fan of YA contemporary romances!
The Firefly Code by Megan Frazer Blakemore: I also really enjoyed this middle-grade dystopian. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for sci-fi books for your kids that aren’t violent. This works as a great into to the genre.
Romancing the Nerd by Leah Rae Miller: This one is super cute and very light and a perfect summery read.
Run by Kody Keplinger: People are calling this YA Thelma and Louise but I didn’t necessarily see it like that. I do think it’s a great book about friendship and the important people in our lives and so many other things. I definitely recommend it.
Rat Queens Vol 3: I love the Rat Queens and get so excited for each new volume. This one wasn’t my favorite, I feel like the characters weren’t quite themselves for some reason and it just wasn’t as fun. But I still love them and am looking forward to more!
Lumberjanes Vol 3: I also love these ladies! Seriously, how great is it to have so many female centered graphic novels and comics these days?! I really enjoyed this one and was only thrown a bit because the art style was different. But otherwise, it was a great story.
The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye: This is one that EVERYBODY is loving but for me just was just kind of okay. I hope to have a review for it closer to its release date of May 17.
Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oakes: This was another one that I didn’t love and I actually even DNF’d it. I don’t do that often but this book was just kind of boring. I maybe should have finished it, and maybe someday I will. But for now, it just wasn’t good enough for me to want to continue.
Suffer Love by Ashley Herring Blake: I LOVED Suffer Love! It’s such a great and unique love story and I really think you should read it if you love YA contemporary romances. Also, it’s a debut. So put it on your lists!
The Raven boys by Maggie Steifvater: And I had to read The Raven Boys because The Raven King just came out and I had to see what all the fuss was about. And I actually enjoyed it. I hope to continue the series next month.
I loved focusing on ARCs for April but I’m ready to read a few more books that I own or have borrowed this month. Here are the books I’m hoping to read this month:
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas: I’m so excited for this book! I pre-ordered both the hardcover and the paperback and I hope they get here soon because I really want to dive into this book!
The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski: I got this book from the library and have been holding onto it for when ARC April is over so I can read it without feeling guilty. I CANNOT WAIT!!!
North and South by Elizabeth Gaskill: So. I’m slightly obsessed with the miniseries of this story and thought I can only be so obsessed with it if I’ve actually read the book as well. So I got it from the library and am hoping to at least start it this month. It’s very long and a classic, which I don’t usually do well with. But since I already know some of the story and already love the characters, I’m hoping that’ll help and I’ll love the book as well.
The Dream Thieves by Maggie Steifvater: I didn’t love The Raven Boys but I liked it enough to continue with the series. I have this and Blue Lily, Lily Blue out from the library but I don’t know that I’ll read both this month. I’m interested to see where this one takes the boys and especially Ronan.
The Long Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes: I LOVED The Fixer last year so I’m very excited to be able to jump into this one now! I hope it’ll be a worthy follow-up!
The Leaving by Tara Altebrando: I’m not usually one for serious mystery/thrillers but I loved The Fixer and a few others and the synopsis on this one was just so intriguing that I couldn’t pass it up. I hope it’ll be good!
The Vanishing Throne by Elizabeth May: Did you guys read The Falconer? I loved it! The sequel is coming out soon and it’s getting really good reviews which is making me very excited!
My Lady Jane by Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows, and Cynthia Hand: Love these authors. Can’t wait to read this book!
Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes and Silence is Goldfish by Annabel Pitcher: I don’t actually know very much about either of these except that the synopses are intriguing and they come out in May. I hope they’re good!
What are you excited to read in May?
