January Reading Queue

Reading Queue is a monthly meme hosted by Books: A True Story and Book Tasty where we can get together and talk about the books we hope to read in the coming month and the books we read last month. So write up your own Reading Queue post and then go check them out!

I read a lot more books in December than I thought I was going to! But, unfortunately, they weren’t exactly the ones I had listed for my reading queue. But I don’t actually care that much because most of the ones that needed to get read got read and the others were books I actually really enjoyed. And that’s most of the reason we read, isn’t it? To enjoy what we’re reading? So I have no regrets.

December Reads

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender There Will Be Lies

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton and There Will be Lies by Nick Lake: I was so surprised by how much I liked TSaBSoAL. I had no idea what to expect but the writing was beautiful and it was full of emotions. I hope more people will read this. TWbL was weird. There’s no other way to describe it really. I liked it and the end was worth the read but if you don’t expect some weird before you pick it up, you will wonder what the hell is going on for a lot of the book.

Seeker (Seeker, #1) Breaking the Rules (Pushing the Limits, #1.5)

Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton and Breaking the Rules by Katie McGarry: I was actually a little disappointed in Seeker. I’m not sure what I was hoping for but it wasn’t an MC who ran away and spent most of her time not remembering what she had done. I was really excited to see Noah and Echo again. I liked this book even though most of it is full of drama that is easily avoidable. But I just can’t help myself when it comes to these books, I love them!

When Joss Met Matt Erased (Altered, #2)

When Joss Met Matt by Ellie Cahill and Erased by Jennifer Rush: I LOVED WJMM!! It comes out in February and I highly recommend this NA book. I loved the relationship and seeing it develop over so many years. Can’t wait to reread it! The Altered series has also become a quick favorite of mine. They aren’t really anything amazingly original or have fantastic writing or anything but they are super addictive, fast-paced, and action-packed. And I really love the characters. Doesn’t get much better than that!

Forged (Altered, #0.5) Betrayed (Altered, #1.5)

Forged and Betrayed (Altered novellas) by Jennifer Rush: I read Erased and really wanted more of the story about these boys so I quickly picked up the two available novellas. I liked Betrayed much better than Forged because it was about Trev and I really like him. Just a note, while I liked these novellas, they’re really short at about 30 pages each.

Lost at Sea

Lost at Sea by Bryan Lee O’Malley: This was a Christmas gift and I couldn’t wait to start it. I love Scott Pilgrim and have been reading more graphic novels so I was really happy to see this. And I read it that day. I was slightly disappointed by the end but overall liked it. I’m looking forward to reading Seconds soon, too.

January Reads

Rebound (Boomerang, #2) The Last Time We Say Goodbye

Rebound by Noelle August and The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand: I’m excited for both of these books because they’re by authors I’ve read before and have really liked. I’m interested to meet their new characters and read their stories. Both of these books come out in February.

Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) Better Than Perfect

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and Better than Perfect by Melissa Kantor: Red Queen is one of my (and a lot of people’s!) most anticipated books of the year. I’m really looking forward to this and hope it can live up to my high expectations. I loved Maybe One Day last year and am excited for this new one from Kantor. But it’s getting not great reviews right now so I’m a little nervous. We’ll have to see on this one.

Grasshopper Jungle The Glass Arrow

Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith and The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons: Grasshopper Jungle is the book club pick for January and I already own it, so I’m all ready to get started on it! I loved Winger so I’m hopeful for this one, though I know the subject matter is much much different. I won an ARC of The Glass Arrow and am so excited to read it. So excited!

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2)

Cinder and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer: I’m excited to finally read this series! Marissa Meyer is coming to Ohio for her Fairest tour and I really want to go so I think I need to actually read some of the books! Hopefully I’ll love them like so many of you guys do. I also have Cress but I just don’t know if I’ll be able to read that much.

Reborn (Altered, #3)

Reborn by Jennifer Rush: I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK!!!!!!!! I’ve read all of the other books in this series and flew right through them. They are so fast and action-packed and I love them. And this book is all about Nick, one of my favorites. I can’t wait to learn about him!!

Okay, that’s a lot of books for January. Honestly, I’m also hoping to finish The Fellowship of the Ring, which I started about a million years ago, and My Heart and Other Black Holes, which I’m almost done with. I’m hopeful that I can get through all of these books because the Bout of Books Read-a-thon starts January 5th!! I’m so excited for this! It’s maybe the fourth or fifth one I’ve participated in and they are so much fun. And having it in January really helps get kick off the new year in a great way. So if you think you want to join in, just check out the website and get ready for lots of January reading!

I hope you all had a fantastic New Year’s! Mine was spent at home with the husband and kiddos eating fondue and watching movies in our jammies and it made me very happy. I hope 2015 brings you all good health, happiness, and lots of amazing books!
