This will be the fourth Bout of Books I have participated in and I couldn’t be more excited. The read-a-thon starts Monday (there’s still time to sign up!) so I’m trying to get my goals set so I can be all ready to go! Here is what I’m hoping to accomplish during the week-long read-a-thon. My Goals
- Read as much as possible, obviously. It’s a very busy week for me, Wednesday and Saturday are completely out but I want to read at least some every other night and catch any moments during the day that I can.
- Listen to an audiobook whenever I can’t read, like while driving or cleaning.
- Finish at least four books. I usually get about two books a week so four would be great.
- Participate in challenges and at least one Twitter chats.
- Comment on other participants’ progress and challenge posts.
The group on top is books I will definitely finish/read during the read-a-thon and the second group is books I have available as options depending on how I’m feeling at the time.
Breakable by Tammara Webber: I’m about halfway through this and I want to finish it right now! I love this just as much as Easy, if not more. I hope it holds out. But I have no doubt it will! The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski: I’m 80% through this audiobook and will definitely finish it during this readathon. I can’t wait to see what happens in the end. The Return of Zita the Spacegirl by Ben Hatke: The third Zita book comes out on Tuesday and I can’t wait to read it!
The Falconer by Elizabeth May: I’m so excited for this book! I bought it last week at the bookstore and am hoping to have time this week to get started on it! Second Star by Alyssa B. Sheinmel: I have this for review but I’ve seen some not great reviews for it. I’m hoping to give it a try this week. Plus, it’s under 300 pages so if nothing else hopefully it’ll be quick. The Art of Lainey by Paula Stokes: I have heard GREAT things about this one and also have it for review. This one might have to be a reward to reading some of the others, but either way I can’t wait to read it! Exile by Kevin Emerson: This is my new audiobook. I’ll start this when I’m done with The Winner’s Curse and can’t sit to read. Soulless by Gail Carriger: I just bought this after reading her Finishing School series and am looking forward to seeing what she can do with an adult steampunk fantasy.
Those are the books I’ll be choosing from. Though, to be honest, if I feel like reading something else, I won’t limit myself to just those. I do want to get a couple reviews books done, but otherwise I’m just excited to read! This is also where I’ll be updating my progress throughout the week. I’ll post books I’m reading, how much I’ve read, challenges I participated in, and any notes from the day.
Monday Books Read: Breakable by Tammara Webber, The Falconer by Elizabeth May
Pages Read: 139 pages of Breakable (finished), 50 pages of The Falconer
Notes: I had a lot more time to read than I thought but I was out for most of the day so I missed the chat and challenge but I’m still happy with my progress for the day.
Tuesday Books Read: The Falconer by Elizabeth May, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
Pages Read: 51 pages of The Falconer, listened to 17% of The Winner’s Curse (finished)
Total Books Read: 2 – Breakable and The Winner’s Curse
Bookish Battle Royale Challenge: Choose 3 fictional characters, tell their strengths and weaknesses, tell the winner of the battle, and why. Here are my contenders: Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games Trilogy) – Strengths: Excellent Archer, Experienced Killer, Wilderness Skills. Weaknesses: Emotional, Battle Weary, Peeta Celaena Sardothien (Throne of Glass series) – Strengths: Trained Assassin, Good at Compartmentalizing, All Around Badass Weaknesses: Paranoia, Nosiness, Chaol Scarlet (Scarlet series) – Strengths: Caring, Strong, Smart Weakness: Cares too much, Emotionally Damaged, Doesn’t always believe in herself enough
Winner: I’m declaring Calaena as the winner of my Bookish Battle Royale. She is just a badass, very well trained assassin. She will get the job done. Both Katniss and Scarlet are experienced killers and are very skilled in their weapon of choice (bow and arrow, daggers) but have emotional issues that tend to creep in more than with Calaena.
Books I’m Looking Forward To: This list could get really long so I’m going to limit it to no more than ten. Let me know if you’re excited for them as well! Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo, Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas, Take Me On by Katie McGarry, Landline by Rainbow Rowell, The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hopkin, Talon by Julie Kagawa, Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally, Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins, I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson, and Waistcoats & Weaponry by Gail Carriger
Notes: I spent more time with my audiobook today than with my physical book but that’s okay because I was able to finish it and I really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to reading more of The Falconer because so far it’s really good!
Wednesday Books Read: The Falconer by Elizabeth May
Pages Read: 96 pages of The Falconer
Total Books Read: 2 – Breakable and The Winner’s Curse
I would pair the book Open Road Summer by Emery Lord with the movie Pitch Perfect. I would do this because both have a strong focus on music, both have a jaded main character, and both have very cute love interests and romances that develop over time. I highly enjoy both and think if you love one, you should check out the other.
Notes: I did not have as much time to read today as I had hoped. I still got in a decent amount of pages in the evening but most of the day was busy, which I had originally expected. I hope tomorrow will be better.
Books Read: The Falconer by Elizabeth May, The Return of Zita the Spacegirl by Ben Hatke, Exile by Kevin Emerson
Pages Read: 99 pages of The Falconer, 240 pages of The Return of Zita the Spacegirl (finished), 17% listened to of Exile
Total Books Read: 3 – Breakable, The Winner’s Curse, The Return of Zita the Spacegirl
L : Lady Thief by A.C. Gaughen
O : Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
R : Reboot by Amy Tintera
I : Into the Still Blue by Veronica Rossi
Friday Books Read: The Falconer, Exile
Pages Read: 82 pages of The Falconer (Finished), listened to 11% of Exile
Total Books Read: 4 – Breakable, The Winner’s Curse, Return of Zita the Spacegirl, The Falconer
Book Cover Scavenger Hunt: Completed
Notes: Fridays are hard reading days for me. I did get in some time (and wrote a couple posts!) but I didn’t get as much as I would have liked (as usual) and from here on out I’m probably not going to have much time to read. Our weekends are packed but I’m going to try my best to fit in time when I can.
Books Read: The Thousand Dollar Tan Line (Veronica Mars #1) by Rob Thomas
Pages Read: 83 pages of Veronica Mars
Total Books Read: 4
Challenges: I was out almost all day and didn’t get the chance to participate in any challenges.
Notes: Today was book solid but I did get some time before bed to read so I picked up my new Veronica Mars book. I’m loving it so much! I can’t wait to finish it.
Books Read: The Thousand Dollar Tan Line, Exile
Pages Read: 120 pages of Tan Line, 25% listened to of Exile
Total Books Read: 4
Notes: Read-a-thon Wrap-Up!! The read-a-thon is officially over and I have to say that I’m very happy with my accomplishments this week. I had wanted to finish 4 books and I did. I read The Winner’s Curse, Breakable, The Falconer and The Return of Zita the Spacegirl! I also finished 53% of Exile by Kevin Emerson and 63% of The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas. (Total pages = 960, Audiobooks = 17% of one, 53% of another.) I also completed several of the week’s challenges and participated in one of the week’s Twitter chats. I didn’t comment as much as I had hoped at the beginning of the week but hopefully I’ll be able to go back and catch up on a few this week. I had so much fun and loved getting all that reading done! I hope everyone else who participated had fun and will be looking forward to the next Bout of Books in August!!
