This week’s question: What is the last book that made you cry? Tell us about the scene…
I honestly don’t cry much during books. If anything, it’s usually just a tear or two. But the one book that actually made me cry real tears was One Moment by Kristina McBride. If you know the book, then you know it follows Maggie as she remembers the events of the last time she was with her boyfriend, Joey, before he died tragically and then unintentionally learns the truth about his life. The entire book is very intense and deals with PTSD as well as loss, guilt, and the realization that things between Maggie and Joey may not have actually been as she had thought. During the book, while Maggie is still struggling to remember the events leading up to her boyfriend’s death, we attend Joey’s funeral. I hadn’t cried during a book like that probably since Dobby died. It was extremely emotional. My heart broke for Maggie, for her loss, for her struggle with trying to remember what happened, for her guilt caused by being the last one with Joey before he died, for the responsibility she felt in his death, and for everyone else who was grieving for Joey. Funeral scenes are always heartbreaking, but this one was done so beautifully, full of so many raw emotions, I had to put the book down while the tears fell. It was rough.
Okay, now that I’m all worked up again, lets share some more sad stories! Leave me a link so I can come check out yours and give you a follow back!
