Summer Wrap-Up Read-a-Thon: Final Update
It's time for the Summer Wrap-Up Read-a-Thon to be over and I admit I'm a little sad. I had a great time using it as an excuse to read whenever I had the time! Now I feel like it's back to normal life. But I need to say thank you now to both Jennifer @ Some Like It Paranormal and Jude @ In Between for hosting the read-a-thon! I had a great time and it was a perfect first experience with a read-a-thon. Now for my final update. I will have my final book count and a few more challenges.
Books
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: Completed
The Mine by John A Heldt: 30% Completed
Glitch by Heather Anastasiu: Completed
Last Summer by Rebecca A Rogers: Completed
Every Day by David Levithan: Completed
Yay! I finished four books and am part way through another! I couldn't be happier with that progress. I put a serious dent in my August TBR pile, though I do wish I had gotten farther in The Mine. But I'm looking forward to focusing on that book now and then a few books just for fun after that that I've already set aside.
Challenges
Synopsis Re-Write: Pick any of the books from your read-a-thon and re-write the synopsis.
Sounds easy, but we'll see. I chose to re-write the synopsis for Every Day by David Levithan.
Every day is a different body. Every day is a different place. Every day is a different waste of time. When no one really knows it's you, does anything really matter?
Every day, A's soul is transferred to a new body. The new body doesn't really know he's there. A lives their lives the best he can, for just one day. Then he leaves. He's never had parents, friends, a home, or anything he can take with him. He's just a soul. And every day this is okay. Until he meets her.
Rhiannon is different. Different from everyone else A has met. He notices her and he wants to know her. But mostly, he wants her to know him.
After a perfect day together, he looks for her. Again and again and again. Every day after he searches for her in his new bodies, finds her, talks to her. He tells her about him. The truth. She's the only one who knows. The only one he loves.
But can love be enough to overcome what he is? Can love overcome not having a body? Can you fall in love with someone different on the outside every day when they are the same person on the inside every day?
A will get his answers.
Ok, that's my re-write. On a related note, I just finished Every Day and I really liked it!
Beach Volleyball Challenge: While playing beach volleyball with your friends, you hit the ball at a fictional character. Who is the character and what is their reaction?
If I were to hit a fictional character in the head while playing beach volleyball, I think it would be Ginny Weasley. Except before it hit her in the head, Mrs. Weasley would jump in front of her. She'd get the volleyball with a reducto curse while yelling, "Not my daughter, you b*tch!" We'd all looked shocked for a minute at the over-reaction, but then we'd just go over and all give her a big hug. Because we love Mrs. Weasley no matter what and know that she's been through a lot.
Ok, that's my answer. And I think the most ridiculous part of that whole answer is the part where I'm actually playing beach volleyball!
Reading Spaces Challenge: Describe the places you read the most this summer.
My reading places aren't that exciting. I didn't go to the beach or on vacation at all really. The places I read most were on my couch in the family room because I can watch my kids as they play while being all cozy on the couch and all tucked nicely into my comfy bed at night. I wish occasionally read while at the kitchen table when I have a few minutes, while sitting in the rocking chair in my girl's room if the kids are playing upstairs, and even sometimes while cooking dinner with my book somehow situated on the counter in between the food and stove (why am I always getting burned?!). It doesn't get much more exciting than all of that, does it?
Okay, that's the end of the challenges and the read-a-thon. I'm so happy to have participated in this and I'm already looking forward to when I can do another one. I hope everyone else had a great time during the RAT! Another big thanks to Jennifer and Jude for hosting!
