We’re into the second week of June and full on summer now. This past week was not quite as structured as I usually like and it showed. I was very light in posting, but I’ll get back on track. I’ve got some stuff planned this week and I’m looking forward to what’s coming up. Here are a few things from last week and some posts to look forward to this week.
Tuesday was a rewind week for Top Ten Tuesday. I chose to cover the topic of the Top Ten Books You Can’t Believe You’ve Never Read. I hope to read them all at some point, but I actually got to one this week already. So things are already looking up for that sad list.
I also wrote a post wondering how other people rate books they read that are a part of a series. I wondered if it was fair to be a little more lenient for sequels and it seems that people agree that it is. Sequels are structured slightly differently than the first book in a series and I think it’s fair to rate them differently. We don’t need all the character background and world building that are required in the first book, and perhaps a bit more depth and forward motion than we would get in the first. All these combined, it seems okay to rate a sequel taking into account the actions and characters of the previous books. If you have any more thoughts, I’d love to hear them here.
Yesterday I announced the winner of My Favorite Reads Giveaway! Jaime L won a book of her choice from my list and chose Clockwork Prince! I also added a few books to the top of my TBR pile according to the books you all recommended. So thank you all for sharing your favorites with me!
I finished three books this week, though they weren’t necessarily the books I was suppose to be reading. I finished Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin and am working on a review to post. Spoiler alert: I loved it! I also read Insurgent by Veronica Roth. I know, I’m only just now getting to it. But I finished it and enjoyed it. I read both of these this week because I stopped by one of the Dark Days of Summer tour stops and was lucky enough to see both Bethany and Veronica as well as Aprilynne Pike and Elizabeth Norris. They made a great group of writers and I highly enjoyed the signing! Also, I finished One Moment by Kristina McBride.
Tuesday’s Top Ten post this week will be all about the Top Books I’d Recommend as Good Beach Reads.
I’m working on reviews for Masque of the Red Death and One Moment. One Moment will be released June 26th, so look for it on shelves in a couple of weeks.
I’m also hoping to work up a post about my stop on the Dark Days of Summer tour.
Coming up next on my list to read list are: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins, The Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner, and Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.
From the Library: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness, Bloodlines and Frostbite by Richelle Mead. Bought: Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin and Wings by Aprilynne Pike.
